The first in her children’s book series, follow site Nutti the Squirrel Who Couldn’t Eat Nuts was inspired by an incident on a family holiday. Back in 2010 her son Callum, now seven years old, was enjoying an ice-cream when he suddenly went into anaphylactic shock and was rushed to hospital where he was administered a dose of adrenalin. After a number of tests, her son was diagnosed with a tree nut and peanut allergy which meant that he was unable to eat not only peanuts but also lentils and peas. Initially, Caroline found it difficult to explain to her son that he couldn’t eat all the things his friends ate including sharing sweets and snacks. She soon realised that it wasn’t just parents and adults in a position of care, that needed informing but the children themselves and their friends, in order to promote understanding and acceptance.

Thus the idea for Nutti the Squirrel Who Couldn’t Eat Nuts was born along with a website dedicated to the real life Nutti The Squirrels.
